Why do the colors look different on paper than on my screen?

Modified on Wed, 7 Jan at 6:08 PM

It is very common for printed results to look slightly different than what you see on your computer or phone.

The Reason:

  • Screens are Backlit: Your phone shines light through the image, making colors appear neon-bright and vibrant.

  • Paper is Reflective: Ink on paper absorbs light, which naturally makes colors appear slightly deeper, darker, or more matte.

Troubleshooting Tips:

  1. Monitor Brightness: If the print looks too dark, your monitor brightness might be turned up too high. Try lowering it to 50% to get a more realistic preview.

  2. Auto-Correct: If printing at a photo lab (like Walgreens), ensure you ask them to turn off "Auto-Correct" or "Color Enhancement," which can muddy the colors.
